We see this choice from two sides: editors want more options, but they don't want another unused subscription. After seven years of professional, commercial editing, we judge plans by the files that reach Resolve and the rights that survive delivery.

Should video editors choose Artlist AI Suite or Max for a recurring Resolve workflow?

Choose Artlist AI Suite when your recurring task is to make original visual ingredients: a narrated explainer, a concept sequence, a temporary music bed, or a set of images to animate. Choose Max when each month also includes stock searches for b-roll, music, SFX, title systems, transitions, LUTs, or plugins.

Stock and generated files play different roles in Resolve. AI Suite creates source material; Max also supplies production-ready ingredients. Blackmagic's April 2026 Resolve 21 guide describes Resolve as one application for editing, color, Fairlight audio, Fusion effects, and photo work.

We haven't run a controlled benchmark of speed, search quality, or asset quality, so there is no honest winner on those measures. Test your last ten projects: count how often you needed stock and generated media. If stock appears in nearly every brief, Max has the clearer workflow. If stock is occasional, AI Suite leaves less unused catalog behind.

How do Artlist AI credits work for DaVinci Resolve?

Artlist AI credits are a monthly pool shared across eligible generations, not a download quota for Resolve. Artlist says credits are deducted according to the selected tool and settings, and unused credits do not roll over into the next monthly cycle (AI credit rules).

For Resolve, generate or refine the asset in Artlist's AI Toolkit or Studio, download it into the Media Pool, then edit, mix, color, and deliver in Resolve 21. Keep the generation record with the archive.

What do Max stock assets add to a DaVinci Resolve 21 project?

Max adds the stock layer that AI Suite lacks: music, sound effects, footage, templates, LUTs, and plugins. For Resolve editors, the most concrete addition is the template workflow, with compatibility checked per download.

Artlist lists titles, lower thirds, transitions, slideshows, and other customizable designs. A download can include fonts, help material, and a DaVinci Resolve .dra project archive. Template pages identify supported software, and templates are included in Footage and Templates and Max (template documentation).

Resolve 21 clears the documented Resolve 18-or-newer baseline, but individual compatibility still matters. Artlist warns that missing fonts can cause errors, some templates require Resolve Studio, and complex projects can perform poorly on lower-powered hardware. Check the version and Studio requirement before a client deadline.

What happens to Artlist stock assets after cancellation?

Artlist stock music, SFX, footage, and templates must be in a project published or broadcast while the subscription is active. Artlist says that published project remains covered after cancellation, but the downloaded stock asset cannot be used in a new project after expiration (license rules).

Save the certificate, download record, project file, and publication date together. If a client delays release, keep the subscription active until publication.

Music also brings Clearlist administration. Artlist says channels and videos registered while active remain cleared, while new channels or content cannot be added after expiration. Clearlist applies to music, not SFX, footage, AI voiceover, images, or video.

AI output follows a separate rule in Artlist's documentation. The company says creators keep rights to generated outputs after expiry, provided they follow the license terms. Don't extend that statement to downloaded catalog assets, and don't treat either category as permission to redistribute the source file by itself.

Artlist stock assets need an active subscription when the project is published.

Artlist Max is worth considering when its stock catalog replaces recurring purchases and its AI tools get used in the same month. It isn't the obvious choice if you need only a few generated clips and already have dependable stock sources.

Before subscribing, answer these four questions:

• Do you need stock music or SFX in most projects?
• Do you need footage, Resolve templates, LUTs, or plugins as well as AI generation?
• Will projects be published while your Artlist subscription is active?
• Does your license cover your own channel, client work, paid media, or team use?

If the second and third answers are yes, Max is broader. If only the AI answer is yes, start with AI Suite and compare its annual cost with your stock library. Prices, plan names, model access, and credit allowances can change, so check the live plan page.
